[edit] Biographical Information
The nephew of Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, Jared Sandberg has played three years in the majors (2001-2003). His minor league career stretched from 1996 to 2007. In early 2007 he was in minor league camp with the Texas Rangers the played 18 games with the AA Wichita Wranglers but was released after hitting only .103. Given he had not above .232 since 2002, it was clear that his chance of being a major league regular had long passed by then.
He hit 18 HRs for the 2002 Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and hit 139 minor league home runs. In addition to the low batting averages, he was always prone to strikeouts: in 2002, he was fifth in the American League with 139 K's, in only 102 games.
In 2005 was a member of the Portland Sea Dogs, the class AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. In 2006 he played in independent ball as well as in the minor league organizations of the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians.
