ESPN, founded in 1979, has been the home of baseball on cable television in the United States since 1990. ESPN is known for its "national game of the week" on Sunday nights, coverage of major events (such as Cal Ripken's 2131st game in 1995), live cut-ins of breaking events (i.e., the last outs of a no-hitter) and a nightly highlights program, Baseball Tonight.

Recently, ESPN signed an agreement to remain baseball's cable home through 2013.
